Responsible for all areas of audio at a venue. To deliver the mixed programme content to Multichoice standards. To operate and maintain complex audio systems on site.
Key Performance Objectives
Tasks
Technical Operations
Configures, maintains and operates digital audio consoles i.e. Calrec mixers.
Programs and operates audio routing systems, embedded, de-embedders and Dolby encoders.
Strong knowledge and use of microphones, (that are used in broadcasting) to maximise the quality of the production.
Co-ordinates and deploys a wide variety of radio microphones used in the Sennheiser and Shure systems.
Co-ordinates and deploys the talkback communication, and Telex RTS systems.
Originates audio program mixes in mono, stereo, 5.1 with the relevant coherent downmixes when required.
Delivers required audio feeds to unilateral outside broadcast units when required
Delivers good quality sound productions using ISDN and telephony, 2-wire systems, 4-wire systems as well as VOIP
Equipment Maintenance
Plans and Executes audio rigs within Health and Safety regulations
Plan and execute maintenance on all audio equipment and cables
Preform first line repairs to all audio equipment
Full responsibility of all audio equipment
Fault finding and execution when needed
Maintenance days booked in advance with full communication to relevant stakeholders
Give a full written report of damaged equipment for repair purposes to audio manager
Ensure equipment is sent to the official supplier for repairs with a full technical report for quick repair turnaround.
Reporting
Full detailed reports completed after each production with all relevant information communicated and emailed to the relevant stakeholders
Detailed reports on audio crew performance to be sent to audio manager monthly
Identify potential training requirement and co-ordinate with audio manager
Stock take of all audio equipment to be completed every four months with full report on equipment condition to be sent to audio manager
CAPEX planning to be completed and sent to audio manager in time for budgeting
Crew Management
Identify training requirements for audio crew
Co-ordinate audio crew leave on your OB unit
Detailed reports on audio crew performance to be sent to audio manager monthly
Manage audio crew in the absence of audio manager
Detailed reports to be completed on disciplinary action when required to be sent to audio manager
Future Planning
Identify and gather knowledge of developments in the audio industry which will impact on the way we move forward
Create audio sustainable reports with full motivations on a regular basis.
Keep abreast of trends in the audio industry such as Dante and AES67
Qualifications Essentials:
Diploma in Television Broadcasting/ Media Studies
Drivers’ License EB
Qualifications Preferred:
A Degree in Audio Engineering an advantage
A+ and N+ will be an advantage
Experience
A minimum of 3 – 5 years Audio Mixing experience in a live television environment, preferably in outside broadcast
Mixing experience in live sport
Strong knowledge of common sporting codes in South Africa
Broadcast Audio Equipment knowledge
Ability to manage and lead an audio team
Working knowledge of AES3, MADI (AES10) and AES67, added advantage will be
Audinate level 2 certification a strong advantage.
