Job Purpose
Town Planner/Professional Planner

To assist the Manager: Planning with land assessment and feasibility input, key spatial planning
input and other strategic planning input.

Apply sound planning, technical and engineering judgement.
Ensure that identified housing projects meet the strategic goals of the City in terms of the
Intergrated Development Pland (IDP) and Spatial Development Framework Plan(SDFP).
Manage the proactive identification of suitable and strategically located land for Housing.
Implement,monitor and review the Housing plan.
Undertake detailed physical planning including the preparation of concept plans and
preliminary layouts.
Undertake housing planning related research and policy as well as community and advocacy
planning.
Assist and provide housing development and planning support and related information to
special programmes, projects, various levels of government and relevant stakeholders.
Maintain awareness and knowledge of planning and development trends, policies and
legislation.
Provide input into policies, guidelines and legislation prepared at local, provincial and national

and evaluation of vacant and settled land for potential Housing projects.
Ensure that identified Housing projects meet the strategic goals of the City in terms of its IDP
and Spatial Development Framework Plan (SDFP).
Manage the proactive identification of suitable and strategically located land for Housing and
ensure that such land is programmed for acquisition.
Prepare, implement,monitor and review the Housing Plan and the Housing Spatial Plan.
Undertake detailed physical planning including the preparation of concept plans and
preliminary layouts.
Undertake community and advocacy planning, site inspections and attends community
meetings.
Assist and provide Housing development planning and support and related information to
special programmes, projects. various levels of government and relevant stakeholders.
Assist and provide Housing development planning and support to special programmes and
projects.
Manage and supervise the work and training and development of junior personnel.
Prepare motivation for operational and capital departmental budget and project specific
funding.
Provide input into guidelines, policy and legislation prepared at a local, provincial and national
government levels.
Maintain awareness and knowledge of planning and development trends, policies and
legislation at the local, provincial, national and international level.

Essential Requirements
Town Planner

Relevant tertiary qualification in Town and Regional Planning (NQF 7/8).
Must be eligible for registration as a Professional Planner with the South African Council for
Town and Regional Planners.
Valid driving license
4 Years relevant experience.
Computer Literacy.

Professional Planner

Relevant tertiary qualification in Town and Regional Planning (NQF 7/8).
Registration as a Professional Planner with the South African Council for Town and Regional
Planners.
Valid driving license
5 Years relevant experience.
Computer Literacy.

Preferred Requirements
Town Planner

Post graduate degree in Town and Regional Planning (NQF 8 or 9).
6 Years relevant experience.

Professional Planner

Post graduate degree in Town and Regional Planning (NQF 8 or 9).
7 Years relevant experience.
