Urgently looking for an HR Manager for a Distribution Centre for a National Retailer in Jhb - listed blue chip company. Fast paced, complex operations. Need strong IR and HR skills with a background in Logistics/Warehousing/Distribution. Will also consider candidates from mining, manufacturing or production environments.
Duties & Responsibilities
Contribute to crafting of HR BP business plan to ensure delivery of focus areas for the year in support of HR strategy
Provide relevant business requirements input for the formalisation for the divisional budget
Apply cost awareness principles in planning and delivery across the HR value chain to contribute to the achievement of divisional financial targets
Provide guidance and advise to Line Managers on people matters relating to the HR value chain (employee performance management, overtime, leave, industrial relations etc.) to ensure adherence and fair application of policies, processes and minimise risks
Assist line managers in achieving financial and productivity objectives through applying workforce planning elements
Engage with all levels of relevant divisions to ensure understanding of their requirements in achievement of divisional strategy and development needs
Build and maintain effective relationships with all key stakeholders to facilitate organisational effectiveness
Identify areas of concern in terms of reporting and use influence to debate and agree the best way forward
Act speedily to resolve problems, queries and complaints
Use influence and negotiation to achieve win-win outcomes
Initiate meetings with key stakeholders to track progress, manage expectations and ensure clients’ needs are met
Proactively communicate and share information and encourage discussion and debate (share successes, highlight challenges and identify and manage risks)
Read the cultural environment and adapt communication style to meet the needs of different audiences
Anticipate and manage conflict, demonstrating an ability to resolve differences, particularly where these may be stalling the implementation of agreed plans
Investigate and implement relevant required interventions that meet stakeholder needs
Articulate relevant identified stakeholder needs to Centres of Excellence (CoE) to ensure clear understanding enabling the fulfilling of stakeholder needs
Build credibility, sustainability and trust through delivering required results within set timelines and standards
Manage own delivery against HR BP delivery plan and set timelines, identify obstacles to delivery and take appropriate action where required
Assist in the development of relevant HR initiatives, to address business requirements, in support of the HR strategy (as required), leveraging off knowledge of divisions and business areas
Identify potential areas of concern in business areas, and conduct root cause analysis to take appropriate corrective action
Provide relevant HR initiative feedback from business areas to CoEs to ensure understanding of business needs and plans / projects that may impact on other areas
Implement HR strategy and initiatives in business areas through communication, problem solving and monitoring compliance
Ensure buy in from business areas for HR strategy and initiative through showing purpose, benefits and influencing stakeholders to view initiatives in a positive light
Analyse business HR requests to ensure clarity and alignment to agreed upon HR deliverables
Analyse, interpret and provide statistical information, monitor checklists and engage with stakeholders to assess and ensure stakeholders compliance with HR policies and procedures
Analyse relevant incidents and problems in business areas and decide and advice on best approach for business area to address issues, guided by legislative and policy boundaries
Apply HR policies and practices across the HR Value Chain to meet risk and HR professional standards
Ensure advice provided, practices followed and conduct displayed adheres to HR professional practice standards
Manage recruitment process for vacancies in own areas, attend interviews and participate in selection decisions to meet business and transformational requirements
Execute steps on HR BP on boarding checklist and hold managers accountable for execution of their checklist action steps to ensure standard and pleasant experience for new employees
Conduct relevant benefit discussions with new employees
Analyse and conduct exit interview results for business areas to identify areas of concern and take appropriate action
Develop and share relevant HR dashboards with business
Ensure robustness of performance review process by conducting quality reviews on performance agreements and development plans for business areas
Identify HR risks, such as Employment Equity risk, by utilising HR risk register, data and discussions with stakeholders to avoid potential penalty costs
Participate and support HR projects by delivering on project plans and actions
Improve personal capability and professional growth relating to field of expertise
Keep abreast of changes in legislation or standards by conducting research and utilising networks
Desired Experience & Qualification
Deep knowledge of Labour Legislation
Recognition and procedures agreements
Health & Safety practices on site
Internal HR Process & Procedures
Knowledge of relevant legislation (BCEA, EE, LRA, Constitution, etc.)
African languages an advantage
Grade 12 Certificate essential
3 year HR qualification or equivalent preferred
At least 3 – 5 years relevant HR experience in very unionised operational environment
Experience within the distribution and logistics sector will be an added advantage
Package & Remuneration
Salary negotiable - R1m +
